DWU volleyball takes care of Doane in road GPAC matchup

Oct. 2—CRETE, Neb. — No. 15 Dakota Wesleyan used a multitude of big runs to take down Doane on Saturday.

The Tigers won the road Great Plains Athletic Conference contest test in three sets. Set scores were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18.

In the first set, a 9-2 run propelled DWU to a 22-10 lead before the Tigers closed out the set. In the next set, after a back-and-forth start, DWU used another run to take a 17-10 lead and jump out to a 2-0 lead in the match. After trailing 16-13 in the third set, the Tigers used another run to mount a 24-16 lead.

DWU hit .226 as a team and held Doane to .071. Ady Dwight paced the Tigers with 16 kills and three block assists. Mariah Gloe added nine kills and 15 digs for DWU, with Madeline Else chipping in 33 set assists.

For Doane, Simonie Mendenhall led the team with seven kills on 11 swings. Jaime Renshaw had six kills, 11 assists and 16 digs in the loss.

DWU (13-4, 5-3 GPAC) stays on the road, heading to Aberdeen to take on Presentation College on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Doane (7-17, 0-8 GPAC) hosts Bellevue on Oct. 4.
