DUNELLEN - Election Day may be nine months away but already Mayor Jason Cilento has announced his bid for a second term.

Dunellen has had only three mayors in the last half century. Cilento succeeded Bob Seader who served for 21 years. Seader succeeded Larry Anzovino who served for 26 years.

Cilento is the first announced candidate in the mayoral races that will dominate local politics this year in Central Jersey.

In Middlesex County, there will be mayoral races in neighboring Middlesex Borough, Highland Park, Helmetta, Jamesburg, Metuchen, Milltown, Monroe, North Brunswick, Old Bridge, Sayreville, South River and Woodbridge.

In Somerset County, Bound Brook, Bridgewater, Franklin, Manville, Raritan Borough, South Bound Brook and Somerville will have mayoral races.

All 80 seats in the State Assembly and 40 seats in the State Senate are up for election this year.

Filing deadline for the June 6 Primary is March 27. The general election is Nov. 7.

Cilento is a political veteran at age 33.

First elected to the Dunellen Borough Council at the age of 20, Cilento served on the council for for nine years and was unopposed in his election as mayor in 2019.

“Since beginning my first term, I have worked with the Borough Council to make our community a desirable place to live, work, shop, and dine," Cilento said in his campaign announcement. "Together we have been able to secure critical investments for the economic development and revitalization of our downtown, develop practical ordinances to enhance the beauty and aesthetics of our residential neighborhoods, and directly address the impacts of flooding in a smart and environmentally conscious way. I am proud of the work we have done and look forward to the job ahead.”
