DUDLEY — The holidays may have been saved for some U.S. Postal Service customers in this Central Massachusetts town thanks to a quick-thinking mail carrier and a good Samaritan.

Dudley police and fire responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Dresser Hill Road around 11:43 a.m. Friday, police said in a social media post.

When police and fire crews arrived, they found an USPS delivery truck fully engulfed.

The mail carrier told police when he realized his vehicle was on fire, he dialed 911 and then began removing the packages and mail from the vehicle with the help of a passerby.

All the mail and packages were reportedly recovered.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no reported injuries.
