Ducceschi selected as Athena Leadership Award recipient

Feb. 7—Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce bestowed its 2023 Athena Leadership Award to the head of a local nonprofit.

Laura Ducceschi, president and CEO of the Scranton Area Community Foundation, will receive the award honoring an individual who achieved excellence in their business or profession, served the community in a meaningful way and assisted women in their attainment of personal goals and leadership skills.

"I'm extremely grateful," Ducceschi said. "One of the things I try to instill at the foundation is what we can do to support women and girls in terms of developing their leadership skills through Women in Philanthropy and help them get over the barriers that stop them from being effective leaders."

Under Ducceschi's leadership, the foundation established a variety of programs including NEPA Gives, The Center for Community Leadership, NEPA Moves, Women in Philanthropy and the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative.

"I hope to continue to help inspire other women leaders in our community and help girls move into leadership positions," Ducceschi said. "I think a big part of the role of any female leader in the community is to think about how we build leadership skills in others."

The award will be presented to Ducceschi during the chamber's International Women's Day Luncheon March 8 at Marywood University.

Bob Durkin, president of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, lauded Ducceschi's impact on the area.

"Ms. Ducceschi is no doubt making positive and inspiring advances in the local nonprofit sector by implementing projects and programs that support our community," Durkin said in a news release.
