Zack Sharp is a man of all seasons for Copan High School.

The versatile athlete has made his impact felt in football, on the hardwood and in baseball — and loved being a part of all three teams.

He’s the kind of blue-collar, dedicated, determined and skilled athlete that help constitute the backbone of a sports program, especially at a community school.

His current role has him making an impact in the post for the Hornets’ basketball team.

“I’ve always liked basketball,” said Sharp, who has played all four years in high school. “I played in junior high and I thought about playing high school basketball.”

Sharp has contributed key points and made his presence felt in other ways on a Copan team that is knocking on the door of a .500 record (5-6).

At the same time, he tries to enjoy the fading moments of his high school athletic days.

“I want to go out there and have fun,” he said. “It’s not about winning, it’s about having fun.”

But, Sharp also finds satisfaction in winning, especially the night the Hornets stunned a very strong Wesleyan Christian School team, 66-64, back in mid-December.

It labels that as his favorite game this season.

As far as the future fortunes of this season, “We just need to keep playing hard,” he said. “We need to be really coming together as a group and working together as a team.”

Perhaps nothing challenged Sharp more as an athlete than football.

Copan usually suited up around 10-to-11 players for eight-man competition, which meant there were almost no subs.

“It was really fun,” Sharp said about his football experience. “If they needed me to go all quarter, I went all quarter. I didn’t give up.”

Sharp’s baseball position has been first base.

“I like going out there and having run and hitting the ball,” he said.

Regardless of his pursuits, Sharp knows his family is behind him.

“It means a lot for them to support me and they have my back,” he said. “It means a lot.”
