Driver killed after police pursuit ends in fatal crash in Putnam County

A person is dead after a police chase ended in a fatal crash in Putnam County Saturday.

The driver was identified by the Plainfield Police Department Sunday evening as Dominique Jackson, 32, of Indianapolis.

The Plainfield Police Department reported that a possible intoxicated or impaired driver was heading westbound on Main Street at Clarks Road in Plainfield around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

An officer observed the vehicle swerving and committing traffic violations. The officer then conducted a traffic stop, during which the officer saw fresh paint transferred on the vehicle, possibly from a recent crash, the Plainfield Police Department said in a press release.

When the driver was asked to exit the vehicle the driver fled from the scene starting the police chase.

The suspect vehicle continued westbound on U.S. 40 into Putnam County where the vehicle eventually left the road resulting in a crash near County Road 550 E. and U.S. 40.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
