Driver killed, passenger injured in single-vehicle crash along Mississippi River in St. Paul
One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash on Shepard Road under the Robert Street Bridge at 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
The Dodge Ram pickup was eastbound when it veered off the right side of the road and crashed into the fence and support structures along the Mississippi River, officials said.
The driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Paul Fire Department paramedics. The passenger, also an adult male, was found in the vehicle and taken to Regions Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Police did not immediately identify the men.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation, but the preliminary investigation has identified speed as a factor, said Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.
