We’re coming off the driest June of record, with 1.17 inches of rain at the International Airport for the entire month. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh is tracking a west-to-east mid and upper level flow that will allow inland showers to push all the way to the coast today.

“I would expect the beaches to get into the act with some of this heavy rainfall this afternoon, and we need it. That’s some of the driest parts of our area.”, Buresh said.

Temperatures will be seasonally hot and very humid. And while it’s not a washout for the holiday weekend, there will be some periods of very heavy rain, lightning and thunder that could disrupt 4th of July plans.

There is the potential for storms for The Stadium Tour at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday, followed by improving conditions for the afternoon and evening hours.

Monday is looking a little hotter with only a few storms in the afternoon. Fireworks should go off without rain in the area.

Storms stay isolated for early next week and temperatures get hotter.

TROPICS: Three areas to watch.

1) A low pressure trough in the NW Gulf of Mexico will bring potential for flooding rain along the Texas Gulf Coast.

2) A tropical disturbance in the SW Caribbean is tracking toward Central America. There’s a chance it organizes before landfall near Nicaragua/Costa Rica. If it gets named, it will be Bonnie.

3) A tropical wave in the Western Atlantic is tracking toward the Northern Caribbean. Organization doesn’t look likely with this one, but we’ll watch it.
