Drew Brees says lone incompletion in record-setting game will 'haunt me for a while'

To say New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was fantastic Monday night would be underselling it. The 40-year-old Brees set two major records as his team dismantled the Indianapolis Colts during a nationally televised game.

Brees completed an incredible 29-of-30 passes, throwing for 307 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-7 win. In the process, Brees set the record for most all-time passing touchdowns and completion percentage in a single game.
One would think Brees would have no complaints about that performance, but that’s not the case. Despite all his accomplishments Monday night, Brees couldn’t shake that lone incompletion, according to ProFootball Talk.
“I’ll be honest with you, you always think about the one that you missed,” Brees said on ESPN. “If I just set my darn feet and throw it to the running back, it’s 30-for-30, so that one may haunt me for a little while.”
While it seems silly for Brees to focus on his only mistake in an otherwise perfect game, it gives fans plenty of insight into what makes Brees one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. Even in a record-setting performance, Brees is focused on the one thing he did wrong. That explains a lot about his drive.
Of course, you probably didn’t need that comment to know Brees works incredibly hard at his craft. Former Saints running back Reggie Bush gave some insight into Brees’ relentless work ethic prior to Monday’s game.
Bush posted a video of Brees taking mental reps on the field 40 minutes after practice had ended Sunday. Brees was the only Saints player still putting in work.
That extra work resulted in an unbelievable performance for Brees. Still, given the way Brees operates, the one incompletion means Brees could put in an extra two hours of mental reps before the Saints take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 16.
