California-based Dave's Hot Chicken is opening its first Arizona restaurant in Gilbert with a grand opening planned for Oct. 14.

Since its inception in Los Angeles in 2017, the restaurant has grown by leaps and bounds with franchises all over America, Canada and one in Dubai thanks to heavy investment by a slew of celebrities including Drake, Maria Shriver, Red Sox owner Tom Werner, Samuel L. Jackson and Good Morning America anchor and retired NFL player Michael Strahan.

Who is Dave from Dave's Hot Chicken?

The fast-casual restaurant was started by best friends — Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan — as a small stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. The recipe comes from Kopushyan, who worked at Thomas Keller's French Laundry.

Within a year the friends opened their first brick-and-mortar as the business took off.
