Dr. Michael Dattoli Give Insight On Brachytherapy with Dynamic Adaptive Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer

Combinations of Brachytherapy with Dynamic Adaptive Radiotherapy Helps More Men Achieve Remission with Fewer Side Effects.

SARASOTA, FL / ACCESSWIRE / June 23, 2022 /Dr. Michael Dattoli is a renowned expert practitioner in the "lost art" of brachytherapy, a method of delivering the maximum dosage of radiation to cancerous tumors of the prostate while sparing surrounding tissues. Prostate cancer patients receive radioactive seeds such as the Palladium-103 TheraSeed® directly into their tumors, in addition to treatments with an advanced form of external radiation therapy called Dynamic Adaptive Radiotherapy, or DART. Over several decades, thousands of men with prostate cancer have placed their trust in Dattoli Cancer Center in Venice, Florida, about 25 miles south of Sarasota.

Dr. Michael Dattoli and his approach have helped more men achieve remission with fewer side effects. They are less likely to suffer the loss of sexual function (impotence) and loss of bladder control than men who receive standard surgical treatment in the form of radical prostatectomy. They have a much shorter recovery time than surgical patients. But brachytherapy plus DART also have lower rates of complications than the most common non-surgical intervention for the disease, high-dose radiation therapy (EBRT).

Dr. Michael Dattoli says that Brachytherapy has become a lost art because it is possible for doctors to earn more money in other ways. Many radiation oncologists offer high-dose EBRT without brachytherapy for the simple reason that they earn more money by using 15 to 20 radiation sessions without the boost of radioactive seed implantation. Dr. Dattoli's approach is not the most profitable treatment for prostate cancer, but there is strong evidence that it is the best.

Just how much of a difference does brachytherapy make?

From the medical journal Brachytherapy:

"The Canadian Androgen Suppression Combined with Elective Nodal and Dose Escalated Radiation Therapy (ASCENDE-RT) randomized trial showed that brachytherapy boost reduces recurrence by 50% compared to dose-escalated radiation."

Put another way, men who have dose-escalated radiation without brachytherapy are twice as likely to suffer a recurrence of their cancer. Plus, they are at considerably greater risk for complications that rob them of quality of life.

Dr. Michael Dattoli has devoted so much effort to making a less-profitable treatment modality available for men who have prostate cancer?

Early in his medical career, he recognized that cancer is a disease that brings a great deal of devastation to a great many people. He saw that the treatment of prostate cancer was lagging behind the treatment of some other kinds of cancers. He has been motivated to bring the greatest amount of relief possible to men facing this kind of cancer.

Dr. Michael Dattoli has many patients who report that their treatment was virtually painless, including the radioactive seed implantation procedure. The Dattoli Cancer Center has the ambiance of a luxury hotel or an upscale health club, rather than a cancer treatment facility. Just as important as world-class treatments are the world-class facilities and world-class staff dedicated to comfortable, compassionate care for every patient.
