DPS: 18-year-old from Alabama dies in rollover crash in Deaf Smith County

An 18-year-old from Alabama died after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Deaf Smith County early Sunday.

At about 6:50 a.m. Sunday, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was westbound on US 60, approximately eight miles east of Hereford, when it veered into the center median for an unknown reason.

The driver, identified as Jayden Villanueva, 18, of Horton, Alabama, overcorrected the steering, causing the Camaro to enter a side skid, according to a news release issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Camaro traveled across the westbound lanes, entered the north ditch, and rolled over.

Villanueva was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was prounced dead at the scene by Deaf Smith County Justice of the Peace Karen Boren.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
