Dozens Rally for Student Debt Relief Outside US Supreme Court

Demonstrators supporting student loan debt relief rallied outside the US Supreme Court in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, February 28, ahead of oral arguments over whether the Biden-Harris Administration’s plan to cancel some student debt can proceed.

The Supreme Court was due to hear arguments in two cases challenging Biden’s plan to forgive up to $20,000 per person in federal student loan debt.

The challengers argue that the administration’s proposal violates the Constitution and federal law, partly because it circumvents Congress, which they said has the sole power to create laws related to student loan forgiveness.

- Today, the Supreme Court will be hearing lawsuits against it? What?

[LAUGHTER]

These lawsuits are bogus.

- We're asking for nothing but what is deserving. We, too, are America. And the burden of student debt is being lifted by President Biden, members of Congress who support it, and it is right. We ask the United States Supreme Court to believe in the certain inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and that we have come to this nation to create a more perfect order. I'm with you. I support you. We are ready.
