Doug Marrone hopeful about job status, ready for multiple beers after tumultuous Jaguars season

After a report over the weekend that his firing is imminent, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone remains employed after a season-ending win over the Indianapolis Colts.

And he’s ready to have a drink. Or a few to be more precise.

Marrone addressed reporters after the game in what could be his final public act as Jaguars coach.

Marrone hopeful

But he doesn’t sound ready to be done in Jacksonville and appeared to hold out hope that owner Shad Khan’s denial of the report that his firing was imminent means there’s a chance he’ll keep his job.

“We’ve had a lot of communication,” Marrone said of talks with Jaguars ownership. “They want to do the best job they can.

“ ... For me, I appreciate that and thank them. I feel that it’s been disappointing. I know in my heart I can take this team to better roads.”

At the same time, Marrone appeared grounded in reality. He knows that Khan didn’t deny that Marrone would be fired, only that he “will meet with his football staff, which includes coaching and personnel, midweek next week.”

That of course, could be a meeting to fire his football staff.

Time for beers

“Am I disappointed? Obviously,” Marrone said. “Am I concerned? Yes.

“For this moment, when I leave here ... I might have a little bit more than one beer.”

Marrone then dropped the proverbial mic and exited stage left.

If that was his swan song as the coach of the Jaguars, he went out on a high note.
