The Yankees placed RHP Domingo German on the 10-day IL before Sunday afternoon's game against the Marlins due to shoulder inflammation.

Manager Aaron Boone broke down the next steps for German as another three-game set, Monday through Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, begins.

"I don't know," Boone said when asked about how long German is expected to be out. "We'll get back to New York and probably get an MRI for him. Yeah, a little shoulder soreness after his last start. And then last night when he was going home, he felt (sore) a little bit, this morning. So we'll see. We'll see how -- I don't want to speculate too much on it, but it's been in there enough to where he said something. And so, we'll find out what we have this week."

After the Orioles (37-67), the Yankees (56-48) finish a two-series homestand with a four-game set against the Seattle Mariners (56-50) Thursday through Sunday.

German started Saturday's game against the Marlins, a 4-2 win, and went four innings. He followed his eight-plus-inning outing last Sunday at the Boston Red Sox, a 5-4 loss with a season-high 10 strikeouts and a no-hitter into the eighth, by giving the Yankees 66 pitches (41 strikes) and yielding two runs on as many hits while striking out five and walking four.

With a 4.45 ERA in 21 games (18 starts) in 2021, German has struck out 95 and walked 25 through 97 innings. LHP Nestor Cortes Jr. (1.93 ERA) will slide into German's spot for now, Boone said.
