It’s pumpkin season and if you’re like In The Know’s Phoebe Zaslav, you’re feeling like a “basic witch.”
Now is the perfect time to let Zaslav walk you through this DIY pumpkin face mask for nourished and hydrated skin. When the produce is in season, it’s more nutrient-dense. That means pumpkins are filled with even more skin-loving ingredients this fall. In fact, each of the five ingredients in this mask is loaded with properties that can make skin healthy and glowing.
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp olive oil
Nutmeg is anti-inflammatory, olive oil is a natural moisturizer, cinnamon is antiseptic and honey is anti-fungal. But pumpkin is the real star here.
“Fun fact: pumpkins are actually jam-packed with vitamins A, C and E which means it can help treat acne. And these bad boys are roughly 90 percent water, so they’ll also help hydrate your skin,” Zaslav explains.
Vitamin A is a retinoid and the basis of all your favorite retinol skin products. It can boost collagen and elastin production, fade hyperpigmentation and can reduce acne and wrinkles. Vitamin C is an antioxidant which means it neutralizes harmful free radicals from pollution, sun exposure and blue light. Meanwhile, vitamin E locks in moisture and strengthens the skin barrier.
Now that you know how beneficial this pumpkin mask is, it’s time to get started.
Zaslav combines all of the ingredients in a bowl and mixes them with her hand. She adds a bit more honey to make ensure the mask is sticky enough to adhere to her face. Zaslav coats her face with the mask and lets it sit for 15 minutes. Then she rinses it off.
“I really feel refreshed. My face feels nice and dewy and clean,” Zaslav says. “I would definitely do this again.”
Sounds like you’ll know exactly what to do with all the pulp from your next pumpkin carving session.
