District soccer roundup: George Jenkins boys upset Lakeland

Samison Demeus scored with 55 seconds remaining to lift George Jenkins to an upset 1-0 victory over Lakeland on Thursday night at Bryant Stadium in the first round of the Class 6A, District 6 boys soccer tournament.

Cohen Bloodworth played a spectacular game in goal that helped keep the game scoreless. He finished with eight saves.

Midfielders Isaac Lascola and Tonry Horton, defender Isaac Jiminez and forward Henry Strawbridge was top performers for the Eagles.

5A-7 Auburndale 1, Jones 0

Auburndale advanced to the district semifinals with a forfeit win over Auburndale. The Bloodhounds will play at New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday.

5A-7 Mainland 2, Lake Wales 1

Mainland got goals from Matthew Vargas and Anthony Polanco and defeated Lake Wales in overtime.

John John Recendo scored for Lake Wales. Oscar Martinez had 15 saves for the Highlanders.

The Highlanders end the year 8-8-4.

4A-7: Lake Region 5, Lake Buena Vista 4

The Thunder (10-5) advanced to the regional semifinals. They will play at McKeel in the district semifinals on Tuesday.

4A-7: Mulberry 5, Davenport 0

Derick Gomez and Daniel Montelongo each scored two goals to lead the Panthers over the Broncos. Tye Crawshaw also scored.

Bruce Lee had three assists, and Giovani Solis chipped in with two assists.

Mulberry will play host to Horizon with in the semifinals on Tuesday. Horizon advanced with an 8-0 win over Tenoroc.

3A-7: Lakeland Christian 7, Bell Creek 0

The Vikings (13-7) led by a modest 2-0 lead at the half then poured in on with five second-half goals. They advanced and will play at Tampa Prep on Monday in the district semifinals.

Halle Ottman led the way with three goals, Adrian Villanueva scored two goals, and Rally Fox and Ethan Green scored one each. Fox, Avery Cassell, Green, Kase Gibson and Landon Harrell each had one assist.

Girls soccer

3A-9: Davenport 4, Mulberry 1

Angie Sciacca scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Broncos (11-4-1) over the Panthers. Georgianna Stathakis had one goal and one assist, and Marisol Enhelder also scored. Casey McNulty chipped in with two assists.
