District honors academic achievements

VARDEN--The Western Wayne School District Board of Directors celebrated the achievement of two outstanding seniors at the recent December Board meeting.

First recognized, Alexandria Bien-Aime is the daughter of Sue and Lazard Bien-Aime of Lake Ariel.

An academic ace, Bien-Aime is a three year member of the National Honor Society (NHS).

She has challenged herself scholastically with 11 honors courses and seven advanced placement (AP) courses throughout her high school career.

Bien-Aime has also displayed leadership potential via four years on Student Council, serving as her Class Treasurer for two years and her Class President for one year. She is also the "Planet Wildcat" literary magazine editor and President of the Yearbook Club.

Her other extra curricular activities include Spanish Club, "Clawset" Organizer, Prom Committee and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).

Athletically, Bien-Aime is a four-year soccer star on the varsity team, participated in indoor and outdoor track and field, and is a cheerleader for football and basketball.

She was also a part of the marching band her freshman year.

On top of all this, Bien-Aime has found time to work the concession stands at school events as a part of various clubs she's in.

Looking ahead, Bien-Aime plans to launch into a four-year, Pre-Med track at a university. She ultimately plans to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Next recognized, Rachel Hoch is the daughter of Rick and Jen Hoch of Lake Ariel.

Likewise a stellar scholar, Hoch has received the First Honors award all four years of high school and is not only a member of NHS, but the club's treasurer.

Her academic ardor has seen her take on nine honors courses and six AP courses.

Demonstrating her own leadership potential, Hoch served as the student government secretary in Ninth Grade, and is currently the Student Body President and the Varsity Club treasurer.

She has also been a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) all four years of high school and served as chapter president.

Other club activities include being co-editor in chief of the Yearbook and participation on the Prom Committee.

Hoch has taken on several sports during her high school tenure including four years on the volleyball team, four years on the basketball team and one year as a member of unified track.

She also volunteers her time in concession stands for challenger baseball, football and volleyball, has participated in the 30-hour famine, and has volunteered for a catwalk fashion show/project runway.

After graduation, Hoch plans to attend a university to study architecture.

Principal's List

In addition to recognizing seniors, the School Board also paid deference to the eight students who made the Principal's List for the first quarter. These are the top two scoring students in each of their grades.

Grade Nine students include David Elias III and Lia Hartman.

Grade Ten students include Adrian Agnello and Thayni Carroll.

Grade Eleven students include Evan Pierce and Kylie Merring.

Grade Twelve students include Kaeli Romanowski and Jordan Ortiz.
