Disney drops a first look of new scene coming to Splash Mountain remodel. Take a look

Disney Parks is inching closer to welcoming guests down on the bayou.

Walt Disney Imagineering released a first look at its upcoming attraction Tiana’s Bayou Adventure coming to California’s Disneyland and Florida’s Walt Disney World, according to a on Friday, Dec. 2 Disney Parks news release.

The new attraction will replace Splash Mountain, a ride that thrived at the parks for nearly three decades, McClathy News reported. Disney Parks previously announced it would remodel the ride after fans called on the company to do away with any problematic or racist stereotypes coming from the “Song of the South” theme.

Disney announced in June 2020 that the ride’s makeover would be inspired by the film “The Princess and the Frog,” McClatchy News reported.

While on the attraction, “you’ll join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans,” Disney Parks news release said.

The newly unveiled scene depicts guests sitting in a log-style boat as they enter the bayou that is illuminated by fireflies, according to Disney Parks. There, guests will be greeted by Tiana, Louis with trumpet in hand and some new critter friends.

While you can’t tell from the rendering, Disney Parks promised that guests will be serenaded by the sounds of “beautiful zydeco music.”

“Zydeco is a special blend of rhythm and blues that was born in Louisiana, and when you hear it, you’ll feel like you’ve truly stepped into Tiana’s world,” Disney Parks said.

Tiana’s new critter friends, “including an otter, a rabbit, a raccoon, a beaver, a turtle and others,” are more than just mere decoration, Disney Parks said. The group of animals “sing and play instruments made of natural materials they found in the bayou.”

To prepare for the next phase, “Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World Resort will be closed starting Jan. 23, 2023,” Disney Parks said.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected to open at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort in 2024, according to Disney Parks.
