Dillons recalls fresh meat sold at Harry & Edgemoor store on Thanksgiving, Black Friday

Dillons Food Stores is recalling fresh beef, pork and poultry sold late last week at the grocery location at Harry and Edgemoor over problems with a refrigerated cooler.

The recalled items were sold on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. They include:

  • Fresh beef including ground beef, steaks, roasts, stew meats and pre-made patties

  • Fresh pork including chops, roasts, tenderloins, ribs, bratwursts and Italian sausage

  • Fresh chicken including ground chicken, gizzards and livers

  • Fresh turkey including ground and cut pieces

  • Uncooked hams

  • Ground bison

  • Plant-based meat alternatives

A news release from the grocery chain say items sold at the 5500 E. Harry location “were potentially at risk and have been removed from sale” after the store discovered the cooler wasn’t “operating at full capacity” due to a faulty expansion valve.

The problem may have affected the cooler’s ability to keep the meats cold enough, which “may have resulted in the growth of spoilage organisms or pathogens,” the release says.

So far, the store has received no reports of illnesses from the questionable meats, the release says. It’s unsure how much was sold.

Anyone concerned about possible sickness should contact their health care provider.

Dillons says customers who bought the recalled meats — or any item from the meat department they’re concerned about — should not eat them and return them to the store for a full refund or product replacement.

Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Dillons at 800-576-4377. The line is answered from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
