A new front driveway and renovated entrance to Dickson Middle School will be discussed and possibly voted on by the Dickson County School Board this month.

Dickson County Schools Director Dr. Danny Weeks said the drive is the first priority among the various projects under consideration by the board. Other projects include a Charlotte Middle expansion and purchasing land for a possible future school in south Dickson County.

Weeks said the school’s current main entrance in the back, which requires walking through two hallways to reach the main office, needs to be changed.

“I don’t think that’s the best practice,” Weeks said.

The driveway would also have angled parking spaces, Weeks said, and allow people to enter in the front of the building off College Street. A new handicapped ramp as well as new front doors are also expected.

If the board approves the driveway at its Aug. 25 meeting, the architects could begin technical drawings and the construction manager can seek cost estimates.

Weeks said the project would be “putting a front door on this building” and “takes care of a secure entrance.”
