Diamond 'Dogs, Sabine begin baseball playoffs

May 5—This time of year, three words give Kilgore High School baseball a full tank of gas: "It's playoff time."

Kilgore didn't win its district this year, as it has so many times, but the Bulldogs did secure a playoff spot and the postseason is coming quickly: Thursday.

The Bulldogs will face Liberty-Eylau, a Texarkana-area school, in the first round of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 4A baseball playoffs beginning Thursday, although there has been back and forth on this one.

It's a best-of-three-game series, originally planned for Thursday. It was briefly moved to Friday-Saturday, but then coaches reverted back to the original plan.

Game one is once again Thursday night at Liberty-Eylau, at 6 p.m. Game two will be Friday, here at Driller Park, at 5:30 p.m., and if a third game is needed to decide the series, it will follow 30 minutes after game one.

Sabine also begins the baseball playoffs this week.

The Cardinals will host Tatum in game one of the bi-district, or first round, of the UIL's Class 3A playoffs on Friday at 6 p.m. Game two will be Saturday at noon at Tatum, and game three, if necessary, will follow game two at Tatum, 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

There will be no admission at either site.
