Probable starting pitchers: Tigers RHP Wily Peralta (4-3, 3.04 ERA) vs. Royals RHP Kris Bubic (5-6, 4.80 ERA).

Game notes: The Tigers wrap up their final 2021 game vs. the rival Royals behind Peralta, who's been a revelation. He has been solid all year, but Peralta saved his best month for last. He's given up four runs, three earned, in four September starts totaling 21 innings. In fact, he hasn't allowed a score in his past 16 innings, dating back to Sept. 7 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bubic is also throwing some of his best ball of the season with a 2.84 ERA over 19 innings (five appearances) since Sept. 1. He saw the Tigers three times before the end of July but hasn't pitched against them since. In three outings vs. Detroit, Bubic is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA, striking out 13 while allowing 15 hits and just one home run over 16 innings.

It has been a season of sweeps as four of the five Tigers-Royals series ended without one of the teams winning a game. Detroit has been much more competitive against its division this season, however, it ends this series with a losing record against each American League Central team. The Tigers have a chance to fix that against the division-champion Chicago White Sox, who will likely be resting to some degree and are 9-6 vs. Detroit this season, and the last-place Minnesota Twins, who are 9-7 vs. Detroit. (Cleveland won 12 of 19 vs. Detroit.) The Tigers host the White Sox on Monday afternoon for a makeup game from last week's series, then visit the Twins for three games and the White Sox for the final three games of the season.
