Game notes: Last weekend, the Tigers and Guardians split two games in Cleveland. More recently, the Tigers lost their series to the Minnesota Twins but were at least able to win in the 10th inning on the strength of two home runs from Harold Castro and a clutch extra-inning homer from Jeimer Candelario. Cleveland comes into the game after dropping two of three against the Houston Astros, including Wednesday night's 2-1 loss.

Skubal, who hasn't allowed a run in 18 consecutive innings, has been fantastic this season but must watch out for Jose Ramirez. The Guardians star, who agreed to a contract extension just before the season, looks to be in MVP form (slash line of .293/.386/.626 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 39 games) and is hitting .455 in 11 career at-bats vs. Skubal. In his last start Friday vs. Cleveland, Skubal did not return after taking a line drive off the shin on a play that ended the fifth inning.

The teams play again at 7:10 p.m. Friday before a pair of earlier starts to close the series.
