Detroit Tigers announce giveaway and special theme days return to Comerica Park

The Detroit Tigers announced that since there will be full capacity at Comerica Park for all home games for the rest of 2021, “giveaway days” are back.

Among the highlights of the special giveaways and themes are a 4th of July celebration, Negro Leagues weekend, and Pink-out the park.

The special-themed events get starting this coming week with Prostate Cancer Awareness night on June 22. Fans who purchase a special ticket package for the game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals will receive a t-shirt and donate money to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. This won’t be the only time the Tigers and Karmanos will be joining forces for a good cause. On July 21, the Tigers will hold “Pink out the Park” night where $5 dollar donations will be made, and the first 10,000 fans will receive a t-shirt.

In July, the club will honor the Negro Leagues legacy with a special “Negro Leagues Weekend” July 30-Aug. 1. On July 31st, the first 10,000 fans into the park will receive a Detroit Stars themed fedora.

A replica Detroit Stars jersey from the 1920s will be a part of a new exhibit at the Detroit Historical Society. The Stars, founded in 1919 by Rube Foster, considered the "Father of Black Baseball," was a prominent National Negro League club, according to tigers.com. They often played against strong white semi-pro teams and won the city's prestigious semi-pro championship regularly in the 1920s. Norman "Turkey" Stearnes played for the Stars, "one of the greatest home run hitters in baseball history - white or black." He moved to Detroit from Nashville at age 22 in 1923, worked at Ford's Rouge plant from 1938-64, and became a UAW member in 1941 when it first organized, tigers.com said. Stearnes was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.

There will be a special theme on Tuesday nights this season with “Thank You Tuesdays” as they pay tribute to frontline workers in the city for all they’ve gone above and beyond during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some of the fan favorite days at the ballpark are back as well with Sunday Kids Days and the Detroit Tigers Kids Club. Sunday Kids days give a chance for kids to run the bases after the game, weather permitting, and club members get to skip the line to participate in the activities.
