People excited to receive Christmas gifts from Robby Fabbri in the coming days may want to temper their expectations if the young Detroit Red Wings forward hasn’t done his shopping yet.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that Fabbri has been fined $2,419.35 for spearing Alexander Kerfoot of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Fabbri is currently on a one-year, $900,000 contract.

The incident, which occurred midway through the second period of Saturday night’s contest, resulted in Fabbri receiving a minor penalty for slashing.

The fine — the maximum amount allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement — will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Toronto went on to win the game 4-1.

Drafted 21st overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2014 NHL Draft, Fabbri has been one of the league’s best feel-good stories this season. After battling injuries and getting lost in the Blues depth chart throughout his first three NHL campaigns, Fabbri was traded to the Red Wings for Jacob de la Rose in early November.

While Detroit has struggled, Fabbri has flourished since the move. The 23-year-old has scored eight goals and collected 16 points in 20 games with the Red Wings after scoring just once in nine games with the Blues to begin the 2019-20 season.

A dynamic offensive threat, Fabbri’s become a regular top-six forward in Detroit and is leaned on to find the net — especially with the injuries to Anthony Mantha as of late.

Currently owned in just 12 percent of Yahoo fantasy hockey leagues, Fabbri is definitely someone you’ll want to keep an eye on if he gets hot and you’re in a deep league.
