7 BOLD PREDICTIONS: Pistons have young, exciting core. Is that enough for playoffs?
Game notes: The Pistons begin a new season, the fourth under coach Dwane Casey. GM Troy Weaver has turned over the entire 15-man roster since taking the job 16 months ago. But the Cade Cunningham era begins with the No. 1 pick in street clothes on the bench nursing an ankle sprain that has kept him out all preseason. General manager Troy Weaver said Wednesday morning he hopes Cunningham will debut when the team returns from its road trip next week. The rookie is the biggest factor in the Pistons becoming winners again (read our Q&A).
The Bulls overhauled their lineup this summer — they look to compete in a deeper Eastern Conference this season — with the additions of DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to pair with a full year of Nikola Vucevic and All-Star and Olympic gold medalist Zach LaVine. ... The Bulls swept all three games from the Pistons last season. ... The teams will have a rematch Saturday in Chicago.
