The Detroit Lions will spend Thanksgiving without their No. 1 running back.

Rookie D'Andre Swift is inactive for the second straight game Thursday against the Houston Texans as he continues to recover from a brain injury.

Swift has not played since totaling 149 yards from scrimmage in a Nov. 15 win over Washington.

He reported concussion symptoms days later and sat out last week's 20-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers, when the Lions had just 40 yards rushing as a team.

Swift was listed as a limited participant on the Lions' estimated practice report Tuesday and Wednesday and was designated questionable for today's game, giving hope that he would clear concussion protocol in time to play against the Texans.

With Swift sidelined for the second straight week, Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson are expected to share snaps in the backfield again.

Peterson, 35, leads the Lions with 389 yards rushing in 10 games, but is averaging just 3.7 yards per carry. Johnson, the Lions' leading rusher in 2018-19, has 129 yards rushing on 36 carries, an average of 3.6 yards per rush, and has played primarily as a third down back this season.

The Lions play-action passing game has been ineffective much of the season as they have struggled to run the ball, and they will play Sunday without two other key offensive skill players.

Kenny Golladay will miss is fourth straight game and Danny Amendola is out for the second straight week, both with hip injuries. Cornerbacks Jeff Okudah (shoulder) and Mike Ford (concussion) and defensive linemen Da'Shawn Hand (groin) and Austin Bryant (thigh) also are out for the Lions, who have lost three of their last four games to fall to 4-6 on the season.

The Texans (3-7) have won two of their last three and are coming off a 27-20 win over the New England Patriots
