The Detroit Lions made it official on Saturday, hiring New Orleans Saints defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn as their defensive coordinator.

Glenn worked with new Lions coach Dan Campbell. then the Saints’ tight ends coach, in New Orleans from 2016-20, and, like Campbell, is a Texas A&M alum.

Glenn, 48, has coached the Saints' defensive backfield since 2016, and worked as an assistant DB coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2014-15. His top pupil is cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who has made three Pro Bowls in four seasons since the Saints drafted him in the first round out of Ohio State in 2017.

The Lions have an Ohio State cornerback of their own in Jeff Okudah, the team's first-round pick in 2020. Okudah endorsed the reported hire earlier this week on Twitter, writing, "My 7V7 Coach at @TheOpening back in HS! Let’s get to it" with a fist emoji.

Glenn played 15 seasons in the league at cornerback and was a three-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection. The New York Jets drafted him 12th overall in the 1994 draft out of Texas A&M. Despite being 5 feet 9, he finished his career with 41 interceptions, six returned for touchdowns. He played for the Jets (1994-2001), Houston Texans (2002-04), Dallas Cowboys (2005-06), Jacksonville Jaguars (2007) and Saints (2008).
