If you know anything about the Gemini zodiac sign, you’re probably familiar with its, um, reputation. You might have heard the jabs "two-faced" and "moody" thrown around, but if you fell for that, you’re robbing yourself of the bigger picture. (Don't you dare try to cut these Gems!)

For starters, if you're dating a Gemini, you'll never be bored. Their desire to mix things up means you'll always be the first to try a new restaurant, go on dates that feel more like adventures, or be part of a spontaneous weekend getaway. Geminis need variety and change and can "get restless if they feel like they're staying in place for too long," says
Rachel Lang, astrologer and author of Modern Day Magic. "I like to think that Geminis are just insatiably curious and have a variety of interests. You are a constant teacher and student at the same time."

Because Gemini is the first air sign, they “need constant stimulation,” says Narayana Montúfar, senior astrologer at Astrology.com and Horoscope.com. So their eyes will instantly light up when they spot someone new who seems fun and cool to talk to. This mutable sign is also “very flexible,” she adds. Got a last-minute party invite? Your Gemini bae is in. Realize they don’t really know anyone there? Not a prob, they'll adapt. Geminis want to feel like they’re a part of something, and the best way to do that is by talking to anyone and everyone.

Liz Simmons is a professional astrologer and tarot reader based in Salem, Massachusetts.

Now, if your Gem ditches you for a conversation with someone else (or the dance floor), that’s not necessarily a sign that they’re not feeling you anymore. They just have a serious case of FOMO. They’ve got an itch to see everything and everyone out there since it’s hard for them to stay focused or attached to one thing for too long, says Montúfar.

A Gemini’s mind is “so active and agile” that they can easily lose interest in something they were quite literally fawning over the day before, says Montúfar. Don’t be surprised if they cancel plans the day of, second-guess their own opinions, or change their minds about something altogether.

Montúfar chalks Gemini’s fickle nature up to Mercury’s movement. The planet is the reason Geminis are super intellectual, but because Mercury also moves at a high speed, it also forces the Gemini mind to move from fascination to fascination—or in relationships, from person to person just as quickly.

Geminis need variety and change and can “get restless if they feel like they’re staying in place for too long,” adds Rachel Lang, an intuitive astrologer and author of Modern Day Magic.

To a Gem, the worst thing a relationship can be is stagnant. They need someone who shares their enthusiasm for new things, says Lang. If a Gemini shows up at their partner's house with all the necessities for an impromptu indoor camping night (complete with s'mores), they want that person to be just as excited as they are, or else they’re likely to leave 'em behind.

That’s not to say a Gemini can’t commit—it just means you need to be okay with not being the center of their universe 24/7. The upside: Your relationship will have plenty of alone time for each of you to do your own things. And when you and your Gem reunite, sparks will fly once again. Plus, with Gemini being one of the kinkiest zodiac signs, you can expect to feel fireworks in more ways than one (wink wink).

Outside of the bedroom, Geminis, a.k.a. "the twins," are the social butterflies of the astrology world. To date someone who expertly floats from group to group and maintains their reputation as the life of the party, you’re going to have to make room for the dynamic (and sometimes dual) personality traits that being "the fun one" requires.

Say what you will about the twins, but their charm is irresistible. Intrigued? Thought so. Ahead, learn how compatible Gemini is to each of the 12 zodiac signs:

Gemini and Aries Compatibility

Aries is the infant of the karmic wheel, while Gemini is the kid. When these two signs get together, they play really nicely and there’s almost an innocence to the relationship, says professional astrologer Liz Simmons: “They bring out each other’s inner child.”

Gemini and Aries are the type of couple to play pranks on their mutual friends. In other words, they get into a lot of shenanigans. Gemini—ruled by Mercury—is obviously the brains behind the operation, while Aries—ruled by Mars, the planet of action—sets everything into motion. Aries just takes whatever curiosity or idea Gemini has in stride and plays off of it, says Simmons.

At the same time, Aries may not always appreciate Gemini’s mischievousness, which may cause some tension in the ‘ship. Mercury is also known as the trickster planet, and its influence on Gemini can encourage them to be a bit deceptive with their words and actions—not necessarily with intention. Aries, on the other hand, is very blunt, honest, and direct. “Sometimes, Aries doesn’t like when Gemini isn’t necessarily sticking to what they say and gets caught in little white lies,” explains Simmons.

This is where the immaturity of these two signs' inner children might come into play. Aries will want Gemini to be more honest and consistent, while Gemini will want to be more changeable.

Gemini and Taurus Compatibility

Gemini is a mutable air sign, while Taurus is a fixed earth sign. Read: Gemini may offer a breath of fresh air for Taurus, whereas Taurus will provide some stability for Gemini, explains Simmons.

In a Gemini and Taurus pairing, Gemini will urge Taurus to go with the flow, try new things, and remind them that it’s okay to change. Taurus, on the other hand, will show Gemini steadiness, which they often struggle with. Together, they’re able to teach each other the best of both worlds, a.k.a the pros of stability and flexibility.

However, as a result of their differing modalities, Taurus might require a bit more steadiness and commitment from Gemini, and Gemini may not want to give that, especially if they’re at a point in their life where they want to have fun and go wherever the wind takes them, says Simmons. “Taurus is a little bit more determined and dogmatic about what they want in a partner,” she adds. “If Gemini isn’t able to fit that mold, that’s where they’re going to see their main issue.”

Gemini and Gemini Compatibility

A Gemini and Gemini pairing is the epitome of like-mindedness and being with a true partner or soulmate, says Simmons. When two people of the same sign get together, it forms a conjunct (ahem, they are one of the same).

Do you remember the Greek mythology tale of Zeus splitting all humans—who originally had two heads, four arms, and four legs—down the middle to make them less powerful? Well, that’s also where the association of the Gemini zodiac sign with twins comes from, says Simmons. So when a Gemini gets with another Gemini, “it’s almost like reuniting with their other half and becoming the strongest version of themselves,” she explains.

Aside from being true partners in crime, this couple also has excellent communication skills and mental flexibility. After all, no one is able to understand Gemini’s way of going about their curiosities like another Gemini.

Nevertheless, because Gemini is so mutable (and, uh, commitment-phobic) this pair might have some trouble locking down the relationship. “You may not see an immediate defining of the relationship between these two. You may not even find a strong commitment or knowing what they want from the partnership, despite having that chemistry,” explains Simmons. Especially if these two want flexibility within their love lives, they could feel a lot of unease with making things exclusive.

Gemini and Cancer Compatibility

The biggest highlight of this pairing is that Cancer can really help Gemini develop their emotional intelligence and listen to their intuitive feelings, while Gemini can help Cancer explore outside of their comfort zone and be more cerebral about certain things, says Simmons.

As a water sign, Cancer can be moody and nostalgic, and “Gemini can bring back a little bit more spontaneity into Cancer’s life and remind Cancer to enjoy life as it is instead of ruminating on the past and being more of a homebody,” notes Simmons.

And while their differing personalities could be a point of mutual growth and connection, it could also be a spot of contention. Because Cancer likes to be cozy and takes comfort in the sacred space they created at home and Gemini likes to spread their social butterfly wings, these two may clash when Cancer wants a night in versus Gemini wanting a night out, says Simmons. “There might be times where Gemini feels like Cancer is limiting their social opportunities, while Cancer may feel like Gemini is pushing them into social situations they’re not entirely comfortable with.”

Gemini and Leo Compatibility

Leo (a fixed fire sign) rules over self-expression, while Gemini rules over thinking and communication, so when they come together, they actually form a really creative and artistic relationship, says Simmons.

They can also be very theatrical together, Simmons adds. “Gemini lights up Leo’s fire in that way, so while watching this couple converse, you’ll notice that it’s very gregarious and excitable,” she explains. Leo and Gemini are able to play off one another’s interests and will be each other’s biggest supporter when it comes to pursuing their individual passion projects and curiosities. Plus, when collaborating on a creative project, no one works better together than a Leo and Gemini couple. These two are partners in love and work.

On the flipside, because Leo is ruled by the sun, they may be demanding and want to be the center of attention, especially in a romantic relationship, which might annoy Mercury-ruled Gemini. Socially speaking, Geminis love to have lots of friends and see a lot of people on the reg, so if this couple shares a friend group or are always tagging along to the same social opportunities, Gemini might not always give Leo the attention they seek, says Simmons.

Not to mention, Leo can be a bit dramatic and Gemini may not always be up for the theatrics. “There might be a slight issue in terms of Leo not feeling like they’re getting the recognition they deserve, while Gemini may not always like how Leo goes about dramatizing a situation and being like, ‘I’m the center of the world,’” Simmons adds.

Gemini and Virgo Compatibility

These two signs are square to one another, which indicates potential for tension in a relationship, but they both share the planetary ruler of Mercury, says Simmons. Read: For this pairing to work, it’s all about communication, communication, and uh, more communication.

A highlight between these two is that they’re so brainy together and work really well in terms of retrieving information and making something out of it, Simmons explains. While Gemini seems to be constantly preparing to be a Jeopardy contestant—going out and acquiring information for the sake of knowing it—Virgo is often the one to take that information and really synthesize it, notes Simmons. “They’re a very intellectual couple and have a lot of opportunities to teach and learn from one another.”

Nevertheless, although Gemini and Virgo are both ruled by the planet of communication, their communication styles are vastly different, which may be a point of contention for this pair. “Gemini can be very chatty, very loquacious and talk just for the sake of talking, and Virgo doesn’t always like that,” says Simmons. “Virgo likes to have their quiet time, especially if they need to calm their mind.” For Gemini and Virgo to avoid constantly getting on each other’s nerves in the long term, they’ll have to set communicative boundaries and learn to navigate their opposing communication styles.

Gemini and Libra Compatibility

Gemini and Libra are both air signs, meaning they form a trine aspect. Basically, these two are on the same page when it comes to being social and keeping interactions light, making for a harmonious relationship, says Simmons.

Gemini and Libra are the couple you’ll always want to go to a party or double date with because they’re just fun to be around, says Simmons. Not to mention, they always have the best tea. “This is the couple that always knows what’s going on; they always have all the drama, which they keep each other entertained with.” Plus, because these two are so socially-focused, they’re also willing to help one another make new friends and expand their network and community, Simmons adds.

However, having that trine aspect isn’t always rainbows and sunshine. “Trine aspects are not only harmonious, they’re also lazy,” says Simmons. Because the energy is so easygoing, Gemini and Libra may have to work a little harder to take the relationship to the next level instead of just falling into step. “If they want to make the relationship work, these two do have to work on their commitment to each other and address issues as they come up, instead of letting things roll off their shoulders,” Simmons adds.

As a cardinal sign, Libra will most likely be the one to move things forward if they want commitment, says Simmons. They just have to be confident enough to address their needs to Gemini instead of waiting for the convo to happen naturally (and, well, Libras aren’t always the best with confrontation).

Gemini and Scorpio Compatibility

Gemini and Scorpio are “kind of a weird couple, in my opinion,” shares Simmons. “They’re not the two people you would expect to end up together, much less fall in love, but when they do get together, it makes a lot of sense.”

As you know, Gemini is super inquisitive and has no problem asking questions…like, a lot. Scorpio, on the other hand, is very private and likes to withhold information, a.k.a they don’t like airing out their business. “If Scorpio has the opportunity to be covert, they will take that chance,” says Simmons. But, “what’s so funny about Scorpio is that while they like to be secretive, they do secretly desire someone who asks just the right questions to let them open up.” And if anyone can get Scorpio to spill the beans, it’s Gemini. Gemini knows what to say to Scorpio to give them the chance to be a bit more vulnerable, notes Simmons. “And that’s what Scorpio needs in a relationship, more than anything else.”

Plus, if Scorpio isn’t in the mood to open up, Gemini isn’t a zodiac sign that will take offense to that. Instead, they’ll just keep it pushing. Despite being a sort of strange pairing, these two work really well together; they’re able to get to the heart of the matter and help each other be a bit more introspective in conversation, Simmons adds.

Where these two might experience some tension, however, is in Scorpio’s desire for more loyalty and commitment from Gemini. Free little bird, Gemini, can be relatively flaky, and Scorpio does need someone who’s willing to be there for them in the long haul, says Simmons. These two may face some major challenges, especially if Gemini isn’t interested in locking down the relationship or able to commit to certain plans and Scorpio isn’t open to change and being a bit more flexible.

Most Compatible: Gemini and Sagittarius Compatibility

ICYDK, Gemini and Sagittarius are sister signs, meaning they’re opposite each other on the Zodiac wheel, or six signs away. And, in astrology, opposites attract.

“When Gemini and Sag pair up, they’re kind of like the student and teacher—Gemini being the student, and Sagittarius being the teacher,” says Simmons. Gemini has a lot to learn from Sagittarius because Sagittarius is always expanding their horizons and gaining new skills, and Gemini, being so inquisitive, is the perfect student who really allows Sagittarius to step into that teacher role, Simmons adds.

Additionally, Gemini tends to be more community-focused, while Sagittarius tends to think more about the global world. In other words, these two make an adventurous couple and are sure to create plenty of memorable experiences together, both near and far, says Simmons.

However, a lowlight for this pairing is that Sagittarius could be that partner who talks at you, not to you, which is not always a desired quality in a partner, notes Simmons. So this is where Gemini might get annoyed with their Sag S.O., especially if their conversations are not reciprocal.

Gemini and Capricorn Compatibility

Gemini and Capricorn are a couple that could work only if and when they’re ready for it. Lest to say, these two aren’t what most would consider the perfect match.

For starters, Gemini is all about flexibility and freedom, while Capricorn is focused on structure and responsibility. But, “if Gemini is looking for a serious lifelong partner, Capricorn is that partner for them,” says Simmons.

Simmons explains that often Gemini, especially in their younger years, aren’t necessarily looking for “The One.” Instead, they look for fun experiences to gain a better understanding of love. When Gemini is finally ready to settle down, however, Capricorn is that partner who will provide the home, family, and structure of a lifelong partnership. At the same time, Gemini can bring a more youthful energy into the relationship and offer Capricorn more flexibility in life as well as love.

Nevertheless, if Gemini isn’t yet ready for serious commitment, this pair can face a huge issue regarding maturity. Capricorn is sort of the Benjamin Button of the Zodiac—they don’t really tap into their inner child until much later in life—while Gemini is always tapping into their inner child, explains Simmons. So unless Gemini is meeting Capricorn at a point in their life where they’re willing to be a bit more silly and goofy, Capricorn may find Gemini too immature for their liking.

It’s all about “right person, right time,” with this pairing, says Simmons. For this to work, they have to find each other at a moment where their maturity levels match up.

Gemini and Aquarius Compatibility

Similar to Gemini and Libra, Gemini (mutable air) and Aquarius (fixed air) form another trine aspect, meaning that the harmony and lightheartedness that is required of a relationship comes very naturally and easily to this couple, explains Simmons.

“This is a really innovative pairing. Gemini is always seeking to learn something new, and Aquarius is always willing to push the envelope,” she says. “When these two come together, it’s like a huge brainstorming session.” Read: This is a very open-minded and unconventional couple. You’ll want to be friends with this dynamic duo because they’re just so cool and interesting. “They’ve done so much, they’ve experienced so much, and they’re open-minded to whatever life has to hold that you just find yourself wanting to be around them,” adds Simmons.

Nevertheless, the Catch-22 of this ‘ship is that Gemini and Aquarius are equally flaky and commitment-phobes, similar to Gemini and Libra. Gemini may struggle with commitment because they get caught up in the moment and are always on the move, while Aquarius might struggle to commit just because it takes them a long time to build that sense of trust and loyalty within a romantic relationship, says Simmons. For this couple to have staying power, they’re going to have to work hard to solidify their commitment as well as maintain their relationship.

Least Compatible: Gemini and Pisces Compatibility

“Gemini and Pisces are not my favorite pairing,” Simmons admits. For the most part, these two are like water and oil—they just don’t mix.

Their main merit might be in their intellectual and intuitive (thanks to Gemini and Pisces, respectively) understanding of one another. “Pisces can be very creative and artistic, and take Gemini’s ideas and turn them into something beautiful,” says Simmons. Meanwhile, “Gemini can help Pisces make sense of their world.”

Where these two may experience some tension is in their abilities to make space for and understand each other’s emotions. Pisces, a water sign, can be very emotional and moody, while air sign Gemini isn't so much. “Pisces needs to essentially work on not always relying on their feelings when it comes to understanding where Gemini is at, and Gemini needs to be a bit more open and communicative with Pisces to understand where Pisces is coming from,” says Simmons. If this pair hasn't established a solid communication practice where they’re constantly checking in with one another to make sure they’re on the same page, they’re going to be a rather inconsistent couple, which isn’t great for longevity, she adds.

So while in the short-term these two can learn a lot from each other and grow as individuals, intellectually and spiritually-speaking, in the long run, they'll need to put in a lot of work to make the relationship last, notes Simmons. “It’s quite an unfortunate love story between these two,” she adds. “It’s like your first love—maybe it doesn’t really work out long term, but you will think of them fondly and have memories to look back on.”
