Desmond Bane out for Memphis Grizzlies against Minnesota Timberwolves

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without one of their top players as they try to end a four-game losing streak Friday at the Minnesota Timberwolves (6:30 p.m., Bally Sports Southeast).

Desmond Bane was ruled out due to knee soreness, meaning the Grizzlies won't have half of their starting backcourt. Bane has scored at least 20 points in three consecutive games and six of the last seven.

Ziaire Williams will start in Brooks' place. It'll be Williams' second start of the season.

The Grizzlies are already down one starter in center Steven Adams, who is out 3-5 weeks with a sprained right knee.

Bane missed 17 games earlier this season due to a sprained toe. His absence hampers a Grizzlies team that relies on his shooting to help space the floor. The Grizzlies are also mired in their longest losing streak since February 2021, when they also lost four consecutive games.

The Grizzlies and Timberwolves met in the first round of last year's playoffs, with the Grizzlies winning in six games.
