Deputy Shot Through Door By Man Barricaded in Home

A sheriff’s deputy was shot from behind a door during a standoff with a man barricaded inside his home in Brandon, Florida, on September 24.

Footage released by Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister shows two deputies responding to a call out to a home in Brandon. Deputy Adriel Gonzalez can be seen speaking to the suspect from behind a door. A shot is fired and hits Deputy Gonzalez in his right arm. Later, the two other residents seen in the footage are led outside to safety by the second deputy.

According to information released by the sheriff’s office, the deputies were called out to a domestic violence incident. The suspect, James Allen Jackson, refused to leave the room he had barricaded himself in and shot Deputy Gonzalez, who was transported to Tampa General Hospital and later released.

Jackson was eventually removed from the home after several hours. The sheriff said Jackson was shot twice by a SWAT team and that “chemical agents” were also used to try to force him to leave the home.

Jackson faces two counts of attempted murder on a Law Enforcement Officer and a domestic violence charge. The investigation is ongoing. Credit: Chad Chronister via Storyful
