The paint scheme for NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin's car in Sunday's Toyota Owners 400 in Richmond was changed to include a black ribbon with "INDY" in white type over it. The phrase "#fedexstrong" was also put on

Eight people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at the FedEx Ground Plainfield Operations Center on Indianapolis’ southwest side late Thursday evening. The victims are Karli Smith, 19; Samaria Blackwell, 19; Matthew R Alexander, 32; Amarjit Sekhon, 48; Jasvinder Kaur, 50; Amarjeet Kaur Johal, 66; Jaswinder Singh, 68; and John Weisert, 74.

"Racing for our @FedEx family today and thinking especially of the Indianapolis team members," tweeted Hamlin, who is sponsored by FedEx. "Stay #fedexstrong."

The car was changed from an Express scheme to a Ground scheme, according to Fox Sports NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass.

Hamlin finished second in the race and wore a hat with the names of the eight victims during his post-race interview.

"First and foremost we want to think of all the families in Indy right now. Awful tragedy that happened there," Hamlin said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with these names on this hat."
