Delaney Lew tapped as Broomfield's new city and county clerk

May 12—Broomfield has a new City and County Clerk.

City Council approved Erika Delaney Lew for the job during Tuesday's meeting. The position was open after former City and County Clerk Jennifer Robinson resigned at the beginning of the year.

The process to replace Robinson began in February, and 63 applications were received. The pool was narrowed to two candidates: Jeffrey Barry, chief deputy clerk-recorder in Yolo County, California, and Delaney Lew, contract and procurement specialist in Broomfield's finance department.

Delaney Lew has worked for the city and county for 12 years. She was previously employed as a Senior Attorney for Broomfield from 2008 to 2017.

"Erika Delaney Lew has worked closely with the clerk's office on elections, Board of Equalization and other functions," the council resolution reads. "Ms. Delaney Lew's legal and organizational knowledge will make her a great asset for the Clerk and Recorder team."

Delaney Lew will begin May 26. The job will pay between $93,288 and $126,152 annually, according to the application.

During a community forum for the position held last month, Delaney Lew said she's lived in Colorado for more than 20 years, and she knew she would be in local government since law school. When asked what her goals would be for clerk, recording, DMV and elections, Delaney Lew said a major goal of hers is to reintegrate the different divisions after a year of remote work.

Robinson resigned at the beginning of the year, and her position was listed Jan. 4. City Council voted in September that Robinson could keep her position despite City and County Manager Jennifer Hoffman's recommendation to release Robinson. While Hoffman did not include a complete list of reasons for her decision, she said Robinson failed to accurately represent Broomfield in emails with a subordinate. Robinson was placed on a week of paid administrative leave while city leadership decided what action to take after Robinson on April 1, 2020, responded to an email to Broomfield Elections Manager Todd Davidson titled "Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold to Host Elections Town Hall with New Era Colorado" insinuating the event would be unsuccessful. In it, Robinson used a cuss word with an exclamation point in the place of a vowel.
