Kamyjah A. Bias, who was 15 at the time of the stabbing and a student at Douglas-PREP, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder. She was indicted by a grand jury in April and is being tried as an adult.

Bias' defense team opted for a bench trial before Chief Circuit Judge Ryan Cadagin. Bias is represented by Greg Sronce.

If convicted, Bias could face 27 to 90 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Scott had just turned 18. Another Lanphier student, Daquan R. Dunn, was also injured in the incident.

The stabbing led to walkouts by students from all three of the city's public high schools, Lanphier, Southeast and Springfield. Students were in part demanding that School District 186 implement more security measures.
