December in Hattiesburg: Top five events not to miss

December is a time to celebrate, but with so many events going on in the Hub City this month, it can be impossible to check them all out.

To make the most of this holiday season, here are some upcoming Hattiesburg events not to miss.

Lewis Lights Season 32

What: The annual Christmas display, which began in 1989 with only a few lights, has grown to about 200,000 lights and more than 300 pieces of handmade wooden displays. The display is open every night, weather permitting, through Dec. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

When: 5:30 to 9 p.m. through Dec. 31

Where: Lewis Lights & Crafts, 280 White Chapel Road, Purvis

Tickets: The display is free to attend.

'The Little Prince'

What: William Carey University Theatre will present the children’s classic, “The Little Prince,” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The script was adapted from the original French version by Tim Matheny, chair of the WCU Theatre and Communications Department, and his daughter, senior theatre major Caroline Matheny.

When: 7 p.m., Dec. 9 through Dec. 11 and 2 p.m., Dec. 11 and 12

Where: Joe & Virginia Tatum Theatre

HCAC Holiday Art Market

What: The event is meant to encourage locals and visitors to take part in Hattiesburg's creative economy while celebrating local artists. Art and other holiday items will be for sale, a perfect opportunity for those looking for last minute Christmas gifts.

When: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 11

Where: Hattiesburg Community Arts Center

Tickets: The event is free.

Victorian Candlelit Christmas

What: The Annual Victorian Candlelit Christmas event, hosted by the Historic Neighborhood Association, is a two-day event that draws hundreds of visitors from across the region to explore the spectacle of 18,000 white bags with flickering candles lining the sidewalks of the Historic Neighborhood and the downtown district.

Carriage rides will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children over 3. Refreshments will be sold in the Walthall Neighborhood Condo from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on both nights.

When: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Dec. 11-12

Where: Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood

Tickets: The event is free to attend.

Midnight on Front Street

What: Residents, first-time visitors and returning visitors are invited to usher in 2022 with music, food and fellowship while watching the iconic Hub Sign drop and a fireworks show on Front Street in downtown Hattiesburg.

When: 11:59 p.m., Dec. 31

Where: Front Street

Tickets: The event is free.
