David Ortiz in first post since shooting: Being home safe with family is 'priceless'

Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz is still recovering after he was shot in a Dominican Republic nightclub in June, but he’s finally getting to do it at home instead of the hospital. Ortiz was recently released from Massachusetts General Hospital after 48 days and was able to post his first Instagram update in eight weeks.

In Big Papi style, it was about family and food.

Being at home and look at my family celebrating that lm here safe is priceless...
Thank for all the prayers 🙏🏽
Too bad l can’t crush food yet 😑!!!!

It looks like the Ortiz family had a fantastic meal to celebrate Big Papi’s release from the hospital. Everything looks delicious, especially that Big Papi-sized steak, but unfortunately the man himself wasn’t able to partake, likely due to post-surgery food restrictions. The bullet that entered Ortiz’s body damaged his small intestine, large intestine, liver, and gall bladder, and he’s had several surgeries since the June 9 shooting to repair the damage.

Ortiz still has some healing to do before he’s able to eat the way he wants to, but he doesn’t seem to mind. As he said in his Instagram post, he’s just happy to be alive and home with his family.
