May 18—A Berks County teen has been named a 2022 Pennsylvania Lamb and Wool princess, the Pennsylvania Lamb and Wool Growers Association has announced.

Haley Weidman, 19, is a graduate of Oley Valley High School and is attending Penn State University, majoring in animal science with a minor in agribusiness management.

She will share the role with Catherine Miller of Cumberland County.

The association said Tayler Garges of Montgomery County was selected to serve as the 2022 Pennsylvania Lamb and Wool queen. She is a graduate of Souderton Area High School and is a sophomore at Penn State University, majoring in animal science with a minor in media communications.

Garges raises 25 head of Lincoln longwool sheep on her family's farm and enjoys showing her sheep on the local, state and national levels.

Weidman was a member of the Berk's County 4-H Sheep & Lamb Club and the Oley Valley FFA Chapter. She has a small flock of Corriedale sheep and was the 2021 Berks County Lamb and Wool Queen. She is an active advocate of the industry, serving as vice president of the Pennsylvania Corriedale Association.

The contest evaluates contestants on a written essay, personal interview and public speaking skills. The official reign of the royalty runs through the 2023 Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg, and they will attend industry related events throughout their reign.
