CANTON – Daughters of Penelope (Canton Chapter) is an affiliate organization of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. The organization hosted the 54th Annual Debutante Ball in which eight girls of Greek descent were presented on April 30. The event was held at the Alex D. Krassas Event Center.

The debutantes are Ava Rocco (GlenOak), Paige Goss (Hoover), Elaina Norris (GlenOak), Marianthi Halkias (GlenOak), Katerina Gilbert (GlenOak), Allie Hartnett (Jackson), Lena Semertsidis (Barberton) and Ariana Tsenekos (GlenOak).

This group of Stark County girls of Greek descent was presented to the community by their parents or guardians and escorted by a gentleman of their choosing. The elaborate presentation ceremony culminates with a traditional Greek dance, the Kalamatano. The remainder of the evening was filled with dancing and fun.

The ball is held every year to honor the girls and their ability to adhere to the Daughters mission, which is to promote the ancient Greek ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence through community service and volunteerism.
