Dakota County 2022 Primary election results: Commissioners race will feature Atkins vs. Francis

A former commissioner will face off against a mayor for the District 2 seat on the Dakota County Board of Commissioners.
With all 19 precincts reporting, Joe Atkins had 71 percent of the vote. Atkins was Dakota County Commissioner for District 4 prior but switched races due to redistricting this year.
Atkins run against the mayor of South St. Paul, Jimmy Francis in November. Francis received 20 percent of votes. The winner in November will replace Commissioner Kathleen A. Gaylord.
The race also included John Wheeler, who received 9 percent of votes.
The district represents West St. Paul, South St. Paul, and parts of Inver Grove Heights.
District 4
In District 4, Rosemount Mayor Bill Droste received 32 percent of the vote, while Seema Maddali, a physician, had 31 percent with 18 or 19 precincts reporting for the district. Droste and Maddali will face-off in November.
Also running Tuesday was Robert Heidenreich, with 19 percent of votes, and Logan O’Grady with 18 percent.
District 4 includes portions of Inver Grove Heights, Rosemount, Lakeville and Empire Township.
District 6
In District 6, County Commissioner Mary Liz Holberg had 57 percent of the vote while challenger Mike Robole garnered 26 percent with all precincts reporting. The two will advance to the November ballot.
Brian Wheeler, owner of Baldy’s Barbecue in Lakeville, received 17 percent of votes cast.
The district represents a portion of Lakeville.
