Residents are invited to an energy assistance and policy forum to be held by state legislators to discuss increasing utility costs.

State Rep. Gary Turco, Rep. Kate Farrar, Rep. Amy Morrin Bello and state Sen. Matt Lesser will be at the Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

Joining the legislators will also be representatives from the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Operation Fuel, the Community Renewal Team and AARP.

The legislators said the price hikes from Eversource and United Illuminating - thanks to the natural gas supply shortage - have affected thousands of Connecticut families. They also said despite the winter getting off to a mild start, oil prices have remained high even with reduced demand.

The four lawmakers have heard from constituents through calls, emails and social media. This is a time for legislators and officials to meet for an in-person conversation and discuss potential legislative action.

The speakers will include Turco, Farrar, Morrin Bello, Lesser, PURA Chair Marissa Gillett, DEEP representative Eric Annes, AARP representative John Erlingheuser, Gannon Long from Operation Fuel and Elizabeth Vinick from the Community Renewal Team.
