Crump: 'Unconscionable' for Wright to die so close to Chauvin trial

"It's just so unconscionable and unbelievable that within ten miles of where the trial regarding the killing of George Floyd is taking place, that a police officer would yet again kill another unarmed black man," Crump said at a New York rally held by Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network.

Police in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center said an officer mistakenly shot Wright while intending to deploy a Taser following a traffic stop on Sunday.

That officer quit the force, and on Wednesday was charged with 2nd degree manslaughter.

The killing echoed the death of George Floyd, who died after being pinned under the knee of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last year.

"It's just unfathomable," Crump said, that Wright's killing could come just miles from where Chauvin is currently on trial for murder.

"Same county. I mean, we're probably going to have the funeral at the same spot where George Floyd was killed almost a year ago," he said.

"I cannot even believe it."
