Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies have reacted to the death of Prince Philip, who passed away on Friday at the age of 99. Both actors played the Duke of Edinburgh on Netflix's The Crown.

In a statement to Today, Matt Smith said “I’d like to offer my condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family. Prince Philip was the man. And he knew it. 99 and out, but what an innings. And what style. Thank you for your service old chap — it won’t be the same without you.”

Meanwhile, Tobias Menzies tweeted "If I know anything about the Duke of Edinburgh I'm fairly sure he wouldn't want an actor who portrayed him on TV giving their opinion on his life, so I'll leave it to Shakespeare. 'O good old man! how well in thee appears. The constant service of the antique world...' RIP."

Philip passed away early Friday morning, April 9, and Buckingham Palace released the following statement:

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

Philip's funeral is currently in the process of being arranged, and Prince Harry—who lives in California with Meghan Markle and their son Archie—is reportedly hoping to attend. As a source told the Daily Mail, "Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family. He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time. Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go."
