Crowds 'embrace the weird' at Waterfront Park for day two of Forecastle Festival

The Forecastle Festival tends to bring the characters to Louisville's Waterfront Park, and Saturday was no exception.

The second day of the annual music festival along the Ohio River brought tons of energy to the start of the long Memorial Day weekend and music fans were ready to take in the scene, with three stages for performers and thousands in the crowd cheering along.

Friday was a wet opener to the 2022 festival, with showers throughout the day. Still, the dreary conditions didn't stop Louisville native Jack Harlow from rocking the stage as the day's headliner, with other performers like Earl Sweatshirt and COIN entertaining the crowd as well.

You couldn't have picked a better day for a music festival than Saturday, though, with sunny skies and temperatures that didn't climb past the mid-70s. Warmer weather was expected Sunday, but day two featured picture-perfect conditions for an afternoon at Waterfront Park.

The crowd responded, too, with eye-popping outfits that included jerseys, nautical themes and a Louisville woman dressed up as Martin Handford's "Waldo" character who said she came out to "let go and embrace the weird" with the rest of the audience.

Amanda Driver hit the park early, arriving in time to catch the start of Léon, Saturday's first act. She said she'd come to Louisville from Nashville for the weekend to check out artists like Phoebe Bridgers, a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles who was among the biggest names at this year's Forecastle Festival, and "get away from the everyday 9-to-5."

The Great Lawn was packed with onlookers who planned to hear performers later in the evening, including electronic duo 100 Gecs and 6lack, who was set to rock the Boom Stage at 8:45 p.m. Rock group Tame Impala was set to perform Saturday's headliner show.

Sunday's headliners include Tyler, the Creator, and Black Pumas as the 2022 music festival, held for the first time this year on Memorial Day weekend, wraps up. But as summer approaches, the party's just getting started – the Bourbon and Beyond and Louder Than Life music festivals are just a few months away from hitting Louisville in September.
