Crossroads Christian scores first win against Neuse Christian Academy

Apr. 13—HENDERSON — Crossroads Christian enjoyed their first win of the 2021 season on Monday afternoon, dominating Neuse Christian Academy by a score of 10-0.

Head coach Trey Snide had hoped to see a change in the status quo after watching Crossroads drop five of their first seven contests by ten points or more but said that his team's performance was their best so far.

"Baseball is fun when you're having fun," Snide said. "If you are you and do what you're supposed to do every single play, you'll be in the game. We've been in every game except for one or two innings but today was a complete game."

Neither team could generate any momentum on the plate until the bottom of the second when sophomore Zach Bartholowmew and junior Gage Edwards each tallied a run for Crossroads to put them up early.

With the outfield keeping Neuse Christian scoreless at the top of the third, Crossroads proceeded to take full control of the game by tallying four more runs. They had an opportunity to add more to their advantage by loading the bases but ultimately had to settle for a 6-0 lead.

A solo home run for junior Ryan Adcock was the first of three for Crossroads in the fourth inning. An exhausted Neuse Christian proved unable to stop Crossroads and they were forced to watch as seventh-grader Jackson Anderson recorded the tenth and final run to end the game by mercy rule at the bottom of the fifth.

Snide believed that pitching and defense were Crossroads' strengths against Neuse Christian. He hopes that Monday's triumph will give his players more confidence going forward, especially since all of them will be returning in 2022.

"We need to keep going and to keep having fun," Snide said. "I love these guys. They're young but I love them. We're starting to build those relationships and that's the biggest thing."

Crossroads will regroup for a big home matchup on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Grace Christian, which currently holds a stellar 10-0 record.
