Cross Country: LQPV/DB girls win on tiebreaker

Sep. 30—GRANITE FALLS — The Canby/Minneota boys and the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd girls won their respective divisions in the Yellow Medicine East Invitational at the Granite Run Golf Course.

The Canby/Minneota boys scored 45 points to edge second-place Lac qui Parle Valley, which had 48. Montevideo was third with 80.

Canby/Minneota's Kolton Duis won the 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes, 56 seconds. Gavin Carl took third for LQPV/D-B in 17:06.

Montevideo's top finisher was Brady Andrews, who took seventh in 17:48.

In the girls' race, LQPV/D-B and Canby-Minneota each scored 39 points. LQPV/D-B, however, won the tie-breaker, which is how the sixth runner for each team did. LQPV's harper Gronholz finished 22nd overall with 23:40. That was one place better than Canby/Minneota's Chevelle Hoffman, who took 23rd in 23:43.

Canby/Minneota's Braelyn Merritt won the individual title in 19:34. Chloe Gloege was third in 21:08 for LQPV/D-B.

Central Minnesota Christian's Sydney Duininck took fifth in 21:33. The Bluejays took third overall with 47 points.
