Cross-country: Loggers roll on with latest win

Oct. 5—The Knappa boys cross-country team has shown — several times — that they would be the best at their level in Washington state.

The only accomplishment left for the Loggers is to prove that they are the best in Oregon. That meet will come Nov. 5 in Eugene.

For now, Knappa won another team title last weekend, when the Loggers scored 31 points and dominated the Rotary Harvest Classic meet (high school division) held Saturday in Longview, Washington.

The second-place team was Hudson's Bay, which finished well behind Knappa with 97 points. Rochester (117) was third, followed by Castle Rock (121) and Mark Morris (133).

Vernonia (seventh) and Rainier (eighth) were the only other Oregon schools competing.

Knappa senior Isaiah Rodriguez finished second out of 85 runners, covering the 5,000 meters in 15 minutes, 46.3 seconds.

The time represents not only the personal record for Rodriguez, it is the new school record (breaking his own previous best of 15:56.0, set last season).

Adding points for the Loggers were sophomore Joshua Peterson (third, 16:27.80), freshman Wyatt Jacobsen (seventh), freshman Finn Peitsch (ninth), junior Corbin Roe (11th) and senior Clay Keyser (13th).

After taking part in Neah-Kah-Nie's "Bigfoot Classic," Knappa competes Saturday in the Rainier XC Invitational.
