Crews battle 3-alarm brush fire in Concord

Jul. 26—Approximately 50 firefighters were busy Sunday battling a 3-alarm brush fire in woods off Blackwater Road in Concord.

At 2:11 p.m. Sunday, Concord fire crews were dispatched to the area of Blackwater Road to investigate smoke in the area. Upon arrival, companies detected signs of a brush fire but were unable to immediately locate it.

With the assistance of nearby residents and UTVs, the fire was located at 2:59 p.m., approximately a half-mile into the woods.

A third alarm was eventually struck due to the rapidly spreading fire as well as the high heat and humidity brought by the recent heat wave. A general alarm was also struck, recalling all available off-duty Concord firefighters.

The Concord Fire Department received assistance from companies from Bow, Allenstown, Boscawen, Hopkinton, Pembroke, and Webster. A privately-owned skidder and excavator were also to help stop the spread of the flames, as well as moving burning debris so it could be extinguished.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
