New taproom in Rehoboth

Editor's note: This story was written before the early-morning fire that destroyed a building on Park Street in Rehoboth that housed Anawan Brewing as well as several other local businesses.

Anawan Brewing Company's taproom is up and running, and it's right up the road in Rehoboth.

Owner Steffen Johnson, and brewer Dan DiRienzo have more big pans for the future too, but for now they're focusing on their brews and the recently-opened taproom.

“We want to start small and prove the concept,” Johnson said. "And overall, we’ve been getting a lot of good feedback. We’ve been selling out of a lot stuff. Last week we had to shut down because we had completely sold out of beer. We had nine beers on tap and they all went out."

Legislature passes Nero's Law

When Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon was fatally shot in April of 2018, his K-9 partner Nero suffered a gunshot wound as well.

A bullet went through Nero's cheek and lodged beneath his right shoulder. State law at the time did not allow for him to be transported in an ambulance for immediate emergency medical care, so he was transported in a police cruiser to go and receive treatment. Nero survived, and is now retired from the Yarmouth Police Department.
