Yahoo Sports' Matt Harmon breaks down how the return of Dak Prescott can take the Dallas Cowboys to the next level for a shot to win NFC East.

MATT HARMON: Sanity prevails in Dallas as the Cowboys finally-- finally-- end this suffering for their fans by extending Dak Prescott to a four-year deal. Massive guaranteed money. A big win for both sides. I mean, this is what you do when you end up with one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL. You sign him. You don't trade him.

You don't do any of that madness. You don't just let him walk out of the door. You extend him and reward him for being a guy who came from the third day of the NFL draft and became a really high-quality starting quarterback. Now Dak is gonna return off an injury from last year. He's gonna be back at the helm of an offense that is just littered with playmakers.

I mean, CeeDee Lamb was awesome as a rookie. Amari Cooper, still a very good, top receiver. You got Michael Gallup there for those downfield, contested catches. This Cowboys offense really sort of stabilized at the end of the year with Andy Dalton, but Dak is gonna take them to the next level.

And when you look out there at the rest of the teams in the NFC East-- I know Washington won the division last year, but they've got questions at quarterback. Dallas has a great chance here. This division is ripe for the taking. And I think all things considered, if Dak is back at 100% health with that offense flying, and if they make some tweaks on defense, I think you got to say it, the Cowboys are probably favorites to be one of the best teams in the NFC East this year.
